Travel Day (MSP-Miami-Port au Prince)

Greetings from Haiti! The November 2013 Rockpoint team made it to Port au Prince without any difficulty and God had an obvious hand in making that a reality. We were extremely blessed by an American Airline employee at the Miami airport. The majority of our team (10 members) was not given seats on the over-booked connecting flight from Miami to Port au Prince. This situation normally results in being bumped to a flight the following day. When we arrived to our gate to find that there would be no attendant there for a few hours, we walked through the terminal until we found an employee. We were informed that we would have to wait to address the matter until someone made an appearance at our gate or we could go to another gate to see if someone else could help us. When we arrived at the next gate we explained our predicament. The first lady, in a somewhat irritated tone, told us to go to our gate and wait. However, there was an angel disguised as the terminal manager of the American Airline service desks who stepped in and made sure that we were all assigned a seat, against protocol nonetheless.  We all made it on the flight and made it safely and seamlessly to Haiti.

It was so clear that God’s hands orchestrated that event and it really set the tone for the beginning of our time here in Haiti. After we successfully retrieved all of our bags we hopped on a top-top and made our way to the guesthouse that will be our home for the next 8 days. The guesthouse is wonderful and cozy. The Healing Haiti people that we have met so far have been outstanding. We were delighted to be welcomed with a delicious taco meal for dinner at a big family-style dinner table. After some time spent lounging around and settling in, the group gathered together on the upstairs, outside patio and discussed some of the Healing Haiti protocols and plans for tomorrow.

We finished with a group prayer, standing together with our hands held. We are very excited to see how God is going to move in and through us tomorrow.
