Today January 12th marked one year since the earth quake that devastated the lives of so many here in Haiti. For many, most of the day was spent at church giving thanks to God. As the team prepared to start our day we could hear joyful songs and adoration coming from the neighboring churches. On the way to Gertrude's orphanage the streets where filled with people on there way to church, from the youngest to the oldest, with bible in hand. We passed by several churches and they were so packed that people were piled up on both side of the streets, in there best outfits and sitting on what ever they could find.
Through out the day the question of, "What can I do?" played over and over in my mind. While holding and playing with little Gabriel more and more it became very clear that God was answering my question. As I looked around and saw the joy on the kids faces my eyes began to open up to see that it is not what I could do but, what He has already done and continue to do through so many of us. That is to show his love to his people young or old, saying good morning, or waving, helping to deliver water or playing with the children are all apart of bringing restoration to Haiti.
God continued to answer my question through out the evening. For the evening we went and joined a service at Heartline guesthouse. We sang, worshiped, prayed, and broke bread together. John from Heartline read from Mark chapter five, he spoke on the woman with the issue of blood that touched Jesus while he was on His way to Jairus's house to heal his daughter. John made a statement that stuck with me the most, "It might not look like much has been done since the earth quake but, Jesus has stopped not only to take care of the Jairus's daughters in Haiti but also the women with the issue of blood." Jesus has done this by moving teams and individual hearts to build homes, rebuilt schools, provided medical care and bring food and water for those in need. Healing Haiti alone delivers over 10 thousand gallon of free water from one truck per day. God is at work through each and everyone of us that has answered His call to share his love to those in need in Haiti.
